I Love You, and I Cannot Forgive You

A two player game of mecha and inevitability

You were inseparable. The best of friends, perhaps even more. But that was then. Now you fight on opposite sides, and your old friend stand before you. Your companion. Your other half. Your enemy.

To Begin

• Name your characters, and their combat specialty.
• Name your fondest memory of your opponent.
• You each pilot a mech. Describe them
• Name a weakness of your opponent's mech, that you only know because of your history
• Take turns describing the battlefield, one sentence at a time.
• When a player feels there is nothing left to describe, they attack.

Attacks

The attacking player describes what their attack looks like. The defending player may describe their reactions, but they cannot stop the attack. At the moment of impact, begin a flashback.

The defending player sets the scene. The scene should reflect an aspect of the attack. The first scene's framing must start with "The last time we saw each other…" Each flashback scene should be set earlier and earlier in their relationship.

The attacker secretly chooses a topic of their shared history they will try to get the defender to reminisce about. They may not ask about it directly. When the attacker has chosen, begin the scene.

When the scene is over, the attacker reveals what their goal was. If the defender discussed it, the hit lands and they take damage. If not, the attack goes wrong and the attacker takes damage.

The defender may automatically negate the attack by framing the scene as their opponent's fondest memory.

The attacker and defender swap roles, and the next attack begins.

The Final Scene

When a player has taken three damage, on their next defense they must start framing their scene with "The day we first met and became fast friends..." The attacker does not choose a goal, as they have already won. When the flashback ends, the game is over.
